Key Consulting / Professional
Experience
Logica Consulting (Sydney) 1999 to
present
On-line financial services: Creation of vision Oct 2000 to
present
James is currently engaged with a multinational joint
venture positioning a new offering in on-line banking/stockbroking. James’Äôs
role is to help the CEO create a vision for the regional offering that will
engage employees and clients alike. The CEO will also leverage the vision to
position the Australian office as the innovator and initiator within the
organisation.
IT startups: Revenue models, marketing strategies and
value propositions June
& Sept 2000
James has worked with two "dotcom" startups including
an ASX-listed company. Both companies sought assistance understanding their
competitive environments, positioning value propositions for their target
markets and developing sustainable business models.
James’Äô key project contributions included:
¬…
Managing work streams focused on the
customer experience and marketing plans.
¬…
Developing models including revenue,
potential target markets and client acquisition costs.
¬…
Developing straw models of the desired
customer experience and a methodology for engaging appropriate input and
feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
The key achievement in both cases was demonstrating the
non-viability of the clients’Äô existing sales, revenue and operational models
together with deliverables to support adopting the viable alternatives
proposed.
Major Resource Company: Business Cases to develop IT
infrastructure July-Sept 2000
James provided one of Australia's largest resource
companies with an "as is" assessment of its Remote Access System
(RAS) and drafted a case for action to support desired enhancements and
improvements. This work led to a much more comprehensive team project to
develop a business case for a migration from Windows NT to Windows 2000,
including the subsequent selection phase to determine the most appropriate
implementation alternative.
Major Stockbroker: Strategic
Business and Process Re-engineering Sept
1999-April 2000
CRM Software Selection and Process
Redesign
A major Australian stockbroker’Äôs legacy order management
system was resulting in sub-optimal productivity, considerable rework and
excessive administration. The organisation requested help to clearly understand
areas for business improvement with data to support potential savings.
James’Äô key contribution to the project included:
¬…
Synthesising key global trends in the
financial services industry and their likely impact on the business,
establishing strategic alternatives in the emerging environment.
¬…
Managing the stream of work involving
process mapping and redesign, including facilitation of workshops to fine-tune
the model and transition the client to its new environment.
¬…
Identifying productivity improvement
opportunities through process mapping and redesign.
The success in the above project allowed the team to
identify how a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system could provide key
productivity improvements to the organisation. The CRM follow-on work included
identifying precise customer management needs, selecting a ’Äòbest fit’Äô vendor,
and redesigning processes to tailor the value proposition to end clients. James
planned and managed the workflow redesign to develop a flexible,
enterprise-wide solution meeting national & global requirements.
Major Public Hospital: In-depth review and analysis
of hospital operations May-Aug
1989
James reviewed patient utilisation of hospital services
with the ultimate deliverable being a case for additional funding presented to
Minister of Health. The hospital successfully leveraged James’Äô report to
attract the funding required to service the needs of its catchment area.

providing companies with consultative advice to support development of
appropriate product, marketing and overall business strategies, including trade
strategies in preparation for missions to key industry events such as CeBIT and
Comdex.

organisational structure and methodologies to the rest of the company.
¬…
James played a contributing role in
developing EDC's Credit Administration System (CAS), a replacement for the
physical file system used for approving and managing some $500 million in
international risk exposure. James subsequently helped develop an Expert System
